Morso 1412 Squirrel

Morso Squirrel 1412 Stove Review

The new Morso Squirrel Standard 1412 stove is a classic with new technology, which is now approved to burn wood in smoke control areas. Thinking of the environment and wanting to live up to the worlds most stringent environmental requirements, Morso have significantly improved the combustion system of its widely know Squirrel stove, a true Morso classic. The firebox is fitted with a tertiary air chamber supplying additional combustion air directly above the flame. This additional air ensures secondary combustion of any smoke and gases giving great efficiency and minimal particle and CO emissions into the atmosphere.

Bought the stove late 2009 ready for the winter season and what a buy it was! compaired to other 5kw stoves on the market the Morso was more expensive than other rivals but i’m glad i did. It puts out a fantastic heat and looks fantastic when burning wood, when the fire is “slumbering” the cast stays hot for hours and keeps the room nice and warm, Quality is second to none! made really well and east to light, it would be nice to have a slightly bigger firebox to fit larger logs on, but each to there own ay! I would have no problem reccomending this stove to any one who wants a 5kw multi fuel stove that will last a long long time!

Installed Morso Squirrel in October 2009 and couldn’t be happier with the purchase. Live in a smoke controlled area so choice was a little limited for size of stove required. In first year saved 30% on fuel bills from previous year (evening and weekend usage) so delighted. Kicks out enough heat to heat living room/diner and tops up radiators when very cold.

Fantastic little stove, heats a room approx 12ftx12ft fast,it keeps room warm for a long time even when last log has gone this is probably due to the quality of the stove. If you have a smaller chimney breast and dont want to carry out any major reconstruction of your chimney breast then this is a good stove that will burn multi fuel, we burn wood as we are in a smokeless area and the Morso can be used in those areas.A good solid heavy stove built to last .Recomend.

Having used several woodburners over the years I can confidently dsay that Morso stoves outperform others in every respect. Having chosed a model suitable for burning in a smokeless zone I have been relly impressed with the lack of fumes from our chimney- certainly compared to others on our street. We took good care to match the output of the stoves we chose to our room sizes following the suppliers guidelines and this was the best decision we made as we are able now to use the stove at its most efficient. This results in a good level of heat, clean glass and a good rate of fuel use. The squirrel is attractive easy to use and to maintain

An excellent little stove that is ever so easy to use and with the large window you really get the feeling of a fire.
The heat output is pretty amazing for something so small and cleaning it is really easy.
    All round a quality product.

we upgraded to this superb little stove last year..it proved indispensible this last winter.it throws fantastic heat and it heats all of our 2 bedroom bungalow.the stove overall says quality and the viewing window is excellent.our standard size chimney is perfect fit for the squirrel multi fuel stove.if you are considering buying a smoke approved (with certificate) stove this has got to be the one.
we can also heat up our plates and food on it…!an added bonus…!!!

I had the squirrel reccomended to me by a friend and it seemed to fit the bill in terms of price and size. I had a tricky installation with a small fireplace aperture and the Squirrel seemed to optimise output relative to size. It also has clean lines would not look out of place in most rooms.

The clean burn claims seem to well founded, all that is observable at the flue is hot air, key if you live in a smokeless area. I found the glass does contaminate fairly quickly but it is easy to clean.

The burn endurance is ok although I am not burning top quality wood which is probably compromising performance. I have not managed to keep it in all night yet. There is comprehensive air control and it takes a while to learn how to optimise this, which also maybe hampering the burn time.

Overall you get what you pay for and this is a high end stove cost-wise but it certainly delivers high end performance. It kept all of my one bed flat very warm all through last years hard winter and I am looking forward to the next one!

I bought this 5kw stove as it had the best reviews and is made of cast iron. Firstly, the stove is very easy to light and draws very well into our Anki chimney system. It gives off an incredible heat for the size of it and the glass door always stays clean, giving a good view of the nice flame. The only slight draw back I have found with the stove is it is not very easy to control the rate of burn. Overall, an excellent stove which I have already recommended to friends.

Extremely happy and would go for a Morsø again. Well worth the higher than average cost. One reason for choosing the Morsø was the long warranty. Turned out, and in no way reflecting badly on the stove design, this warranty was needed – A very minor defect in the glass retaining clips caused the extreme corners of the glass to crack, though not as to affect functioning or safety. As a precaution I contacted Morsø. Despite the glass officially being excluded from the warranty as a wear and tear item Morsø UK were fantastic. From emailed photos they determined the cause was not through misuse and promptly sent replacement glass FOC. Many long fires later and all running beautifully. Still looking like new inside and out.
Also bear in mind refuelling time on all DEFRA (smoke control area) approved stoves will tend to be shorter than non-DEFRA approved models. The minimum air supply is kept higher to ensure cleaner combustion, but that also means slightly more rapid burn.

Now we have somewhere warm in our house; Its the good old Morso 1412. We’ve burned Wood and Coal brickets. the brickets lasting longest. one bucket, lasting a day. So hot sometimes can’t stand the heat. so we open lounge doors, and it now heats four rooms. Two Up and Two down. all 16×16 with 10ft ceilings. So easy to light and keep clean. Just a few sticks of very dry kindling, a long match, open the door a little to start, plonk in three logs of well dried hardwood, when fire is going well and we’re away. Finish the day with coal brickets. Still a light next morning, a few more bits of kindling on top, and off we go again. Gas heating, now little used, and just for background heat in remaining rooms. I find it better to fill the stove with fuel, as it does not perform well if it has loads of space about in the fuel compartment. I ‘ Wood ‘ get another ! B. H.

I bought the Morso 1412 3 years ago and although very impressed with the overall heat output
I am disappointed with having to replace the fire rope a few times already. I have bought the Morso product and spent hours cleaning and fixing the rope in to find the door very hard to close.
    The glass has also broken.
